NPP would have used anything, even distant crises, to increase fuel prices – Edudzi Tameklo

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has credited President John Dramani Mahama’s administration with maintaining economic stability without resorting to Eurobond borrowing.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 with Roland Walker monitored by MyNewsGh, Tameklo argued that the current government has taken a different approach to managing economic pressures compared to previous administrations.

“President Mahama in one year with thoughtful innovative leadership, without Eurobond, had kept this economy sound,” he said.

He stressed that, as of the government’s one-year review, no Eurobond had been issued. “Look, do you know that as we speak today, we have not taken one dollar Eurobond as we speak today?” he stated, adding,

“What will happen in the future? Let the future decide that. But today as we speak, we have not taken one dollar Eurobond.”

Tameklo also pointed to debt servicing under the current administration, referencing a recent repayment. “Artur Fawcett has today paid the debt he has inherited about $709 million record,” he said.

According to him, the timing of the payment was significant due to exchange rate conditions. “He made that payment at an exchange rate of 10.5,” Tameklo explained.
