University expels final-year student for saying lecturer writes projects for N150,000

A viral video in which Nigerian student Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora allegedly said her lecturer wrote her final-year project for N150,000 has triggered her expulsion from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rivers State.

The university’s Senate expelled the final-year student after reviewing the video, which circulated on social media last week and showed her struggling to explain her research topic while claiming that her supervisor was handling the work.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, said the institution took issue with the student’s description of her research topic as “Citizenship” and her allegation that her supervisor was writing the project for her.

The university maintained that no project topic titled “Citizenship” existed in its Department of English and Literary Studies.

“Senate has expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora with Matriculation Number U/2022/19900, a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, over damaging content creation,” the statement said.

The university added that the decision was intended to deter other students from engaging in similar conduct.
