Police arrest three suspects in taxi theft syndicate

Police have arrested three individuals suspected of using taxi cabs to steal mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting passengers.

The suspects, identified as Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor, were taken into custody on January 12, 2026, following intelligence-led operations.

Speaking on the arrest, a police spokesperson said, “Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects target passengers, mostly women, in the early hours of the day.

“Two sit in the front, while the third positions himself at the back. Once the victim boards, they lock the doors and create a distraction, allowing the suspect at the back to steal phones or wallets.”

The suspects are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations, while authorities work to identify others who may receive or trade in the stolen items.

The Ghana Police Service urges the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious taxi activities to help curb similar crimes.
