We don’t need outside interference – Chiefs back Baba Jamal’s win

The Ayawaso Council of Zongo has defended the outcome of the Ayawaso East constituency NDC primary, urging the party to respect the declared winner despite ongoing investigations into alleged vote-buying.

Baba Jamal, Ghana’s recalled High Commissioner to Nigeria, narrowly defeated Hajia Amina Adam in a contest to select the party’s candidate for the March 3 by-election.

Addressing concerns about potential cancellation of the vote, the council stressed the importance of community harmony.

“There is no election that is perfect. It is only God knows who is clean. So we appeal to them to leave it as it is. Since the result has been declared in the name of Jamal, please, let us advise the government, or whoever it is, that they should please leave it the way it is,” a council member said.

The chiefs said they plan to collaborate with Baba Jamal to promote unity in Nima and prevent disputes from escalating. They also asked that external parties refrain from interfering in local decisions.

“We don’t need interference outside. It is the Nima team. Nima has already decided. We have decided. Jamal has gone round on the force, extending good messages to everybody, to all delegates,” the statement said.

The council’s message comes amid calls for scrutiny over alleged vote-buying in the primary, highlighting tensions within the party as it prepares for the crucial by-election.
