Nigerian social media user Christy, known online as Christy, has shared her firm stance against polygamy, saying she would rather divorce than remain in a marriage where her husband takes another wife.
“I would rather choose divorce over having a co wife,” she wrote. “I am so selfish on that aspect and can’t stand it for a second.”
Christy linked her position to a personal experience involving a close friend.
According to her, the friend lost his brother during a difficult period after their father travelled with his second wife and left the first family without financial support.
“He left them with no money, his mother was also ill at that time. Everything happened so fast and the brother was gone,” she stated.
She added that she would never agree to be either a first or second wife.
“It either you and me forever or we part ways,” she wrote, noting that she has seen situations where taking a second wife created serious strain within families.
