Real Madrid takes decision on Mourinho returning to Bernabeu

Real Madrid CF will not consider a possible return for José Mourinho as head coach, according to reports from Diario AS.

Mourinho is set to watch from the stands when his SL Benfica side face Los Blancos in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie on Wednesday night.

However, there appears to be no prospect of the Portuguese tactician reclaiming his place in the dugout at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Reports indicate that the Spanish giants are unhappy with Mourinho’s comments following the racism incident involving Vinícius Júnior in the first leg. Mourinho had suggested that Vinícius’ celebrations after scoring the only goal of the match provoked the home supporters.

Madrid are instead prioritising the work of Álvaro Arbeloa in charge, although confidence has reportedly been shaken after a recent defeat in Pamplona.

While the club continues to monitor the coaching market, Mourinho is not part of their future plans.
