ECG Meter Wahala: IMANI Boss Franklin Cudjoe wails; threatens illegal connection

President and Founder of the Imani Centre for Policy and Education( Imani Africa), Franklin Cudjoe has threatened, tongue in cheek, to resort to power theft( illegal connection) if the issue of electricity credit getting unusually depleted is not addressed.

Over the past week, electricity(power) purchased from the Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) by way of prepaid credit has been running out in a most unusual manner, beyond the reasonable estimation of consumers, prompting complaints on social media.

For Mr Cudjoe, his 1,500 Cedis worth of credit ran out in less than two weeks, a most unusual occurrence by every stretch of the imagination.

“I can confirm that Meters are stealing our power. My daily consumption until my birthday on February 16th was 21 cedis. I purchased 1500 cedis on February 16th. At exactly 9:07am this morning all the credits are gone,” Mr Cudjoe lamented.

He then joked that he would have to steal power if the Energy Minister does not swiftly address the challenge with the meters:

“Zero. Abeg Jinapo make you investigate fast oo or l buy new power way e finish pass Usain Bolt p3 l l go disconnect and do illegal connections. I swear!”

The Energy Minister has directed ECG to, within seven days, investigate the concerns of consumers regarding their meters and unprecedented consumption rates and report to him.
