Restore hope as a lived reality – Mahama’s call to action at SONA 2026

President John Dramani Mahama said the ultimate goal of his administration is to “restore hope, not merely as a promise, but as a lived reality of Ghanaians and Africans alike.”

Speaking during his State of the Nation Address (SONA), he emphasised turning political vision into tangible outcomes for citizens.

Setting his speech against the backdrop of a shifting global order, President Mahama warned that “the global order… endures only as long as it protects the advantages of those who designed it.”

He added that as emerging nations gain influence, “the very architects of that order prove willing to relax their commitments.”

Against this backdrop, he urged Ghana and Africa to avoid “fragmentation, hesitation, or continued dependence.”

Instead, he called for building “resilience and prosperity” through “cooperation, self-belief, and strategic alignment,” signalling a firm commitment to both domestic growth and continental leadership.
