Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sabah Zita Benson, has received flak for her condescending remarks about a fellow woman in her quest to “empower” other women.
On March 7, 2026, Sabah Zeta Benson spoke to women who had converged in the United Kingdom for the Women of Valour Conference.
The conference, which was expected to encourage women to reach for the top, turned into a moment of dishing out condescending remarks to another woman when the high commissioner took over the stage.
She recalled an incident that happened before the December 2024 elections with a female member of the then NPP government.
The High Commissioner said, “Until she is able to keep a boyfriend, marry, and divorce, she’s not worthy of my attention.
But if she is able to find a man, marry, divorce, and remarry; achieve what I have achieved; have children; be a mother, a wife, a career woman; handle it all; be a chef, a nurse, a teacher—and even if she fails at one thing—I will clap for her, because she tried and bounced back”.
These comments by the High Commissioner especially on a day before the world celebrates International Women Day has been seen as worrying aby a section of Ghanaians who think she should known better.
