A lecturer at the University of Ghana and a member of the GNPC board, Professor Patience Aseweh Abor, has expressed concerns over how some boards of state-owned enterprises are busy siphoning the scarce resources of their companies to compensate themselves.
According to her, it is a worry that boards that are expected to mobilize resources for the running of the organizations they govern are rather dissipating the meagre resources available.
The GNPC Board members’ comments come on the back of the president’s directive banning travel abroad for board activities.
To Wegeiwor Aseweh, if there is a need for any board activity in 2026, such activities can be done virtually rather than using resources of the state for travel.
Making her position known in a post shared via social media she said “Board members aside their oversight responsibilities, are required to help mobilize resources for the running of the organizations they govern.
Unfortunately, there have been cases in some #State Owned Enterprises, where board members are busy moping the scarce resources of their companies to compensate themselves.
If there’s the need to engage any external #partners to enhance the work of any board, I think that can be done virtually in today’s world.
You do not need to fly out to countries for board activities under our current economic situation in my opinion.
Thank you Mr. #President for this bold show of leadership to protect the #public purse. I absolutely agree with you Sir.
Good morning #Ghana , good morning #Africa“.
