The Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance, Joe Jackson, has stressed the need for transparency when business dealings involve relatives of public officials.
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, Jackson said the involvement of family members in providing services to the state is not necessarily wrong, but the process must be open and free from personal influence.
“If I am a CEO of Dalex, it doesn’t mean my brother cannot provide certain services, but that decision cannot be taken by me. It should be thoroughly transparent,” he said.
Jackson explained that clear disclosure helps avoid the perception of a conflict of interest. According to him, when relatives of leaders are involved in providing services, the public should be informed about the details of the arrangement.
“The president’s brother can undertake certain services, but the appearance of a conflict of interest is avoided by being transparent,” he noted.
He suggested that authorities should clearly explain the financial and operational details of such engagements.
“By declaring: this is the value, this is how it costs to run the jet, this is the services provided,” he added.
