Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has called for reforms to strengthen the prosecution of financial crimes, including the creation of specialised courts and improved case management for corruption-related cases.
Speaking on KeyPoints on TV3 Ghana, Domelevo said Ghana’s current legal framework slows down the handling of corruption cases and needs urgent attention.
“We need specialised courts and better case management for corruption cases,” he said.
According to him, public officials who approve suspicious payments should face immediate scrutiny while investigations are conducted.
“Public officials who approved questionable payments must be suspended and investigated,” he stated.
Domelevo also expressed concern about the broader legal system used to deal with financial crimes, saying it requires reforms to improve accountability.
“I have a big problem with the legal framework for addressing financial crimes. We need to fasten the pace for prosecution,” he said.
