Ghanaian singer Efya has spoken about the influence of rapper Sarkodie and shared her views on the current crop of female vocalists in Ghana.
Speaking on the Loud Lounge Podcast hosted by DJ Slim, Efya said she learned an important lesson from observing Sarkodie’s career.
According to her, artists who reach the top level in the industry often become the standard others are measured against.
“I learned that from Sarkodie. When you are seen as the top of the game, everybody will come for you,” she said.
She added that rappers are often compared to Sarkodie as a way of measuring their level in the industry.
Efya also reflected on her own career, stating that she believes she has made a strong contribution to vocal performance in Ghana’s music space.
“I believe I have made a monumental statement when it comes to vocalisation in Ghana,” she said.
At the same time, the singer acknowledged several female vocalists she believes are doing well in the industry.
