Celebrated Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama says an alleged assault in Tamale has forced him to cancel several international engagements and suspend his work in the short term.
Speaking at a press conference, he explained that he was scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom for a series of lectures across institutions, including stops from Cambridge to Oxford and the Royal College in London, before continuing to Helsinki, Amsterdam, and South Africa.
“That evening, I was meant to travel to the UK… and also continue to Helsinki for work and then to Amsterdam and then to South Africa before coming home,” he said.
He noted that all trips have now been cancelled due to injuries he sustained.
“But all those trips have to be cancelled, and I don’t think I can even travel for the next month because the last few days I have not even eaten solid food because my lips are all bruised, and three of my teeth are broken, I have sores in my mouth,” he said.
According to him, the physical impact has made it difficult to carry out normal activities, bringing his routine to a halt.
“Currently, it has put my entire life on hold,” he added.
Mahama said the situation has disrupted not only his travel but also ongoing work commitments tied to his international schedule.
