Ghanaian lawyer and politician, Kwame Owusu Danso has stated that Ghana’s fight against illegal mining is showing progress but still requires stronger and sustained action.
He said recent measures have helped reduce illegal activity in some forest reserves and water bodies.
“As we speak, there has been some reduction in mining within some forest reserves,” he said.
However, he cautioned that the gains should not be mistaken for final success.
“Absolutely, there has been some shortfall,” he stated on Joy Prime.
He emphasized that enforcement efforts must continue consistently across all affected areas.
“I think that it is not a lie. I think we still have a long way to go,” he said.
According to him, while policy changes and enforcement structures have improved the situation, the overall challenge of illegal mining is still ongoing.
