Legal practitioner, Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers has called on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exercise restraint in their public commentary on the ongoing trial involving Chairman Wontumi.
According to him, any careless statement could be misinterpreted as attempts to influence justice.
He said political communication around the case should be carefully framed to reflect respect for the judicial process rather than pressure on the courts.
“My advice to the opposition in the NPP is that their public commentaries must be nuanced.
“It must be one that reflects that they want justice to be done, not one that suggests they want justice to be banned,” he stated.
Brako-Powers stressed that the credibility of the justice system depends partly on how political actors engage publicly while cases are still before the courts.
He warned that any perception of interference could weaken public confidence in the final judgment expected on July 3.
