It’s embarrassing that Ofori-Atta has run away from Ghana – MP

Kumbungu MP Hamza Adam has said public officials who have had the opportunity to serve Ghana should be willing to answer questions about their stewardship when required.

Commenting on the situation involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, the MP said he personally would find it difficult to remain outside the country if there were calls for him to account for his actions in office.

“For me, I will find it embarrassing that my own country, of which I was given an opportunity to serve, and then I ran away from my country,” he said on GTV.

Hamza Adam argued that accountability is not only about the individual involved but also affects the reputation of family members, associates and political parties.

“I think that he wouldn’t want to put himself, the family and the party in that state of embarrassment,” he stated.

According to the MP, public service comes with a responsibility to answer to citizens when concerns are raised.

He expressed hope that the situation would eventually be resolved in a manner that protects both the country’s institutions and public confidence in governance.

“The right procedure will be followed,” he said, adding that accountability remains an important part of public office.
