How Black Stars match helped bring former couple together – Hohoe MP

Hohoe MP Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo has claimed that Ghana’s World Cup victory over Panama coincided with a reconciliation between a man and his former wife at a viewing centre in his constituency.

Speaking in Parliament, Tsekpo said he received reports of an incident involving a couple who had been separated for several years.

“Another incident happened in one of the viewing centres. A man who divorced his wife four years ago hugged the wife at the viewing centre,” he said.

According to the MP, the interaction did not end there.

“This morning, we were told that the woman was now sleeping with the former husband,” he added.

Tsekpo used the story to illustrate what he described as the positive social atmosphere created by Ghana’s victory.

The Black Stars defeated Panama 1-0 in Toronto, with midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi scoring the winning goal in stoppage time.

The result gave Ghana a strong start to their Group L campaign ahead of their next match against England on June 23, 2026.

While discussing the game in Parliament, the Hohoe MP said the celebrations extended beyond football, citing examples from communities and families that gathered to watch the match.
