World Cup: Ghana earn millions after booking round of 32 place

Ghana have secured at least $13.5 million in FIFA prize money after qualifying for the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.

The Black Stars reached the knockout stage before playing their final Group L match. They qualified under the tournament’s new 48-team format.

FIFA has set aside a record $871 million in total payments for teams in the tournament. This includes $655 million in performance prize money, $120 million in preparation funding, and extra support costs.

Every team receives $2.5 million in preparation funding. Teams that are knocked out in the group stage receive $10 million in performance payments, making a minimum total of $12.5 million.

By reaching the Round of 32, Ghana are guaranteed at least $13.5 million. This includes the $2.5 million preparation funding and $11 million for reaching the first knockout round.

The prize money goes up at every stage of the tournament. Teams receive $15 million for reaching the Round of 16, $19 million for the quarterfinals, $27 million for finishing fourth, $29 million for finishing third, $33 million for finishing as runners-up, and $50 million for winning the World Cup. These amounts do not include the preparation funding.

The 2026 World Cup is the first to have 48 teams and a Round of 32, adding one more knockout stage and a new prize level for teams that qualify.
