Anti-corruption campaigner, Edem Senanu has identified the Conduct of Public Officers (COPO) Bill as a critical missing piece in Ghana’s accountability framework.
He said the absence of a clear legal standard governing the conduct and sanctions of public officers creates enforcement challenges.
“We need that law in place. That, for me, is the standard,” he said.
He explained that without COPO, institutions often lack clear legal direction when dealing with misconduct cases involving public officials.
According to him, this results in inconsistencies in how accountability cases are handled.
He added that a well-defined legal framework would make prosecution and sanctioning of public officers more straightforward.
