A Nigerian man has said that changes in household income should not affect how spouses treat each other.
Speaking in a video posted on X, he argued that some women begin to disrespect their husbands after becoming the higher earner.
“It doesn’t matter how many breadwinners there are. Even if you are the breadwinner, you have to respect your husband,” he said.
He claimed that some women change their attitude after securing better-paying jobs abroad.
“You make small money, and the first person you disrespect is your husband,” he said.
Drawing comparisons with some Indian and Pakistani families, he added, “You can meet a woman earning $200,000 a year while the husband is not working, but she still treats him with respect.”
He maintained that financial circumstances should not determine the level of respect shown within a marriage.
