NPP communicator, Awal Mohammed, has alleged that there is ongoing infighting between Ewe and Ga-Adangbe factions within government, pointing to recent public disagreements involving senior officials.
He referenced a dispute involving the DVLA Director-General, Julius Neequaye Kotey, and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over an alleged arrangement to deploy DVLA staff to Ghanaian embassies abroad.
“After facing severe public backlash, Pontius Pilate Ablakwa publicly claimed that no such agreement existed. However, Julius later countered this by releasing pictures that definitively proved the case and validated the deal,” he said.
Awal Mohammed added that the development later appeared to take on ethnic undertones, with different political actors and supporters allegedly aligning along regional lines.
“It immediately took an ethnic turn,” he stated.
He also cited another incident at the Accra Digital Centre involving Chief Executive Dzifa Gunu, who reportedly terminated the contracts of some staff members before the decision was later reversed following the intervention of Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George.
“Recognising the injustice, Sam George stepped in, reversed the terminations, and reinstated all the affected staff. For the first time, he received widespread commendation for showing genuine empathy,” he said.
Awal Mohammed further claimed that reactions on social media reflected ethnic-based alignment among some supporters, though he provided no evidence to substantiate the claim.
“They have successfully turned Sam George into the villain while painting Gunu as the victim,” he added.
He also criticised Tourism Minister Dzifa Gomashie, accusing her of deepening divisions within the political space through her public commentary.
“We all assumed this bias was only directed against Akans, but her actions show she is walking the talk within her own party,” he said.
