NDC Has No Role In Third-Term Court Case But Would Support Mahama If Allowed – Suhuyini

NDC communicator Hamza Suhuyini says he will support President John Dramani Mahama seeking another term in office if the Supreme Court determines that the Constitution allows it.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Suhuyini said the final decision on the matter rests with the Supreme Court and should be respected.

“You think I will stand in the way of the President if the court of the country says that he should go for a third term? That is a decision of the Supreme Court,” he said.

Suhuyini said he has confidence in President Mahama and would back any legal pathway that permits him to contest again.

“This is a President I believe with every fibre of my being and confidence. My interest is for President Mahama to go for a third term. Does the law allow it? I don’t know,” he stated.

He added that if the Constitution permits such a move, he would openly support it, but would accept the court’s interpretation if it rules otherwise.

“If the law does not allow it, I will respect it, but if the law allows it, I will celebrate it, project it and pursue that agenda without any form of reservation,” he said.

Suhuyini also said the NDC is not connected to the legal action currently before the Supreme Court.

“We have no association with whatever is going on,” he added.

The comments follow a suit filed at the Supreme Court by Ganiwu Alhassan, a teacher from Kpandai in the Northern Region, seeking an interpretation of Article 66(2) of the 1992 Constitution.

Alhassan is asking the court to determine whether a person who has served two separate, non-consecutive terms as President remains eligible to contest again, arguing that the constitutional restriction applies only to consecutive terms.
