National Communication member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kofi Tonto, has criticised the manner in which the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) arrested Dennis Miracle Aboagye, questioning both the timing of the arrest and the delay in granting him access to legal representation.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr. Tonto argued that there was no justification for arresting Mr. Aboagye at the airport if investigators still required his cooperation.
“Even if he had been called a hundred times and they needed to speak to him again, was the airport the best place to arrest him?” he questioned.
He also disputed suggestions that Mr. Aboagye had repeatedly ignored invitations from EOCO.
“Miracle was called once to be interrogated, but they are creating the impression that they have called him a hundred times,” he alleged.
Mr. Tonto further claimed that Mr. Aboagye was denied prompt access to legal counsel after his arrest.
“Since he was arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, it is only this evening, Monday, July 13, 2026, that he has gotten legal counsel,” he claimed.
He additionally alleged that the individual who petitioned EOCO against Mr. Aboagye had a personal grievance against him, and alleged that this may have influenced the complaint.
