Reggae singer Fantan Mojah has died at the age of 49, weeks before his 50th birthday.
The Jamaican artiste passed away on Tuesday evening at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, reportedly after complications related to his heart.
A close associate, booking agent Vertex, told Observer Online that Fantan Mojah’s health worsened in the days leading up to his death.
“Since he came back from the United States, he was hearty, but over the past week he started to ‘tek down’ and he was admitted to the UHWI,” he said.
According to Vertex, the singer’s condition deteriorated further before his passing.
“Last night, he was vomiting blood, and that was it. He passed away,” he added.
Fantan Mojah was reportedly preparing to perform at this year’s Reggae Jam Festival in Germany, with his Schengen visa for the engagement already approved.
The singer had faced health challenges in recent years. In July 2024, he was hospitalised in Martinique after experiencing breathing difficulties and chest tightness, with reports at the time indicating concerns about his heart condition.
By early 2025, Fantan Mojah had shown signs of recovery and returned to touring in Europe.
