Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed that plans are far advanced to ensure the start of the Women Development Bank.
According to him, the company has been incorporated, and efforts are underway for a banking license from the Bank of Ghana.
The Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the government has transferred GH¢400 million to an escrow account at the Bank of Ghana as the capitalisation amount for the proposed Women’s Development Bank.
The minister made this known while reading the mid-year budget review on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
“The government has made progress with the Women Development Bank…an amount of GHC 400 million to the Bank of Ghana for the Women Development Bank to commence operations before the end of this year,” he told Parliament.
The proposed Ghana Women’s Development Bank (GWDB) is a specialized, special-purpose financial institution currently in its final regulatory stages, awaiting an operational license from the Bank of Ghana. It is designed to bridge the credit gap for women by providing low-interest loans, business advisory programs, and financial literacy training.
