Don’t Be The Next Wontumi – Jantuah Tells Political Appointees

Former Presidential staffer and renowned development economist P.V Jantuah Boateng Dadson has cautioned government appointees to exercise restraint and accountability in the use of public authority, warning that misuse of power can damage the reputation of political parties and weaken public confidence.

Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, Mr. Dadson said political office comes with responsibility and that individuals entrusted with authority must avoid actions that could undermine the image of their parties.

He cautioned that some appointees may take advantage of their positions when their parties are in government and engage in activities that do not reflect the values of the organisation they represent.

“If one does not take care, when their government is in power, they will take that opportunity to do lots of uncalled-for things,” he said.

Referencing the legal issues involving NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Mr. Dadson said party members must protect the collective image of their organisations to maintain the confidence of voters.

“People of the party should take steps to protect the corporate image of the party so Ghanaian voters will have confidence in us so that they will know if we are given power, we will not exploit it,” he stated.

He added that the fight against illegal mining requires continued vigilance, predicting that more individuals could face similar situations if allegations of misconduct are proven.

“I will not be surprised if another person is caught for the same issue of galamsey,” he said.

Mr. Dadson stressed that political power should be viewed as a responsibility to serve the public rather than an opportunity for personal advantage.
