The economy was in the ICU; it is now recovering – Owusu Danso backs turnaround under NDC

Lawyer and Executive Director of Lands and Mines Watch Ghana, Kwame Owusu Danso, is of the view that the country’s current economic challenges should be viewed in the context of the conditions inherited by the present administration.

Speaking on Joy Prime, he said the government is working with the resources available rather than relying on additional borrowing to rebuild the economy.

“Because, yes, we are going through some hard times. But these hard times are not born out of the deliberateness on the part of this administration. It is because we are coming from somewhere,” he said.

According to him, the economy inherited by the government from the NPP was in a difficult state.

“We are coming from a very dark place. So it is very difficult for anybody to invest in specific places or to invest in other places if the money is simply not there,” he stated.

Kwame Owusu Danso added that the administration has adopted a different approach to economic management.

“You have an administration that is saying we are no longer going to borrow. We are going to look at what we have and use what we have to be able to build the economy,” he said.

He described the economy as having been in the “ICU” before showing signs of recovery.

“This is an economy that was in the ICU. Fortunately for us, something has been done. The economy is now resuscitating,” he added.
