He raised me when I was young – Mercy Asiedu mourns Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka

Kumawood actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu has paid tribute to the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, describing him as a father figure whose guidance played a significant role in both her personal life and acting career.

Speaking to Adom FM on July 30, 2026, during the final funeral rites of the Kristo Asafo founder at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, Mercy Asiedu reflected on the encouragement she received from him as a young actress.

She recalled one occasion when they were preparing for a performance at the National Theatre and she felt intimidated during rehearsals.

“I remember a time when he was preparing us for a performance at the National Theatre. During rehearsals, I was a bit shy, and he told me not to let anything intimidate me in life, no matter what I was doing.”

According to her, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka consistently encouraged those around him to believe in themselves and trust God.

“He always said, ‘Believe that you can do it.’ He encouraged us to have a can-do spirit, saying that when you are determined and put your trust in God, He will help you achieve whatever you set your mind to.”

Mercy Asiedu said the late spiritual leader’s influence extended beyond her acting career, noting that he supported and guided her during a period when she was still finding her path.

“He is my father. He was the one who raised me when I was young. The impact this man had in my life is about 90 percent, so I have to give him that befitting last respect.”
