Godfred Dame should refund the money spent on the case – Franklin Cudjoe reacts to Sedina ruling

Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has questioned the prosecution of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe Attionu after the Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged her on all charges.

Reacting to the appellate court’s decision, Cudjoe expressed surprise that all 78 charges brought against the former MASLOC boss were dismissed, raising questions about the prosecution’s handling of the case.

“Wait o, for the Court of Appeal to dismiss all 78 charges brought against Sedina, means the former AG Godfred Yeboah Dame, ably backed by the DPP’s office, could not pin even a single one out of the 78 charges without a rebuttal?” he wrote.

The Court of Appeal unanimously overturned Sedina Tamakloe’s conviction and 10 year prison sentence, ruling that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court also held that the trial judge wrongly shifted the burden of proof to the accused before acquitting and discharging her on all counts.

Following the judgment, Cudjoe argued that the prosecution’s inability to sustain any of the charges should prompt questions about the resources committed to the case.

“We should be asking the former AG Godfred Dame to pay back the money he wasted on the matter,” he added.

The former MASLOC CEO had been convicted by the High Court in 2024 on multiple charges, including stealing, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, money laundering and procurement-related offences.

However, the Court of Appeal quashed all the convictions after finding that the prosecution’s evidence did not satisfy the legal threshold required for a criminal conviction.
