Rapper D-Cryme has called on musicians to pay more attention to the quality of their work, arguing that modern opportunities have made it easier for some artistes to gain attention without putting enough effort into production.
According to him, while technology and digital platforms have created more opportunities, they have also contributed to a decline in some areas of music preparation.
“It is easy to see somebody blow overnight because too many avenues have made it easier,” D-Cryme said.
However, he believes some artistes are not spending enough time refining their songs before releasing them.
“The saddest part is that it makes other people also not put in a lot of work from production wise,” he said.
D-Cryme stressed that both artistes and sound engineers have responsibilities when creating music.
“Sometimes when you hear the song, you go like, ‘This is coming from the studio.’ The engineer and the artiste himself should have taken their time to produce this properly, record, mix and master it properly,” he explained.
He also highlighted the importance of investing in music videos, noting that quality work can remain relevant years after release.
“Whatever you do, you don’t know the longevity of it,” he said.
The rapper pointed to older music videos that continue to attract attention because of the effort invested during their creation.
“Imagine it is years right now and it is still being nominated for certain music video categories and others are coming with little videos. Show your own. You want to dodge for this time because you didn’t put in work,” he said.
For D-Cryme, a strong foundation is what allows music to survive changing trends.
“When it comes to studio recordings, make sure you guys do it to perfection. Other ears listen to it before it comes out,” he advised.
He added that once the foundation is strong, other parts of an artiste’s career can build from that quality.
“When you get it great, the foundation is solid, the rest is ready,” he said.
