The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has ordered the indefinite closure of Obuasi Secondary Technical School following an incident involving students and the school’s headmaster.
The closure comes after tensions on campus escalated into a violent situation, leading to the involvement of security agencies to restore calm.
Reports indicate that some students accused the headmaster of being seen in a nearby bush burying a fetus.
The students further alleged that the baby was linked to claims involving an abortion involving a student.
Following the incident, six students have been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged attack on the headmaster.
The students are also accused of destroying three bungalows, cars and other valuable property belonging to the school.
The Obuasi Municipal Assembly said the indefinite closure was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and to prevent further disturbances on campus.
The condition of the headmaster has not been officially disclosed, although reports indicate that he received medical attention at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following the incident.
