Show Us the Evidence  — Dr. Ayeh Challenges Minority on GoldBod

Presidential Aide for Government Communications, Dr Sammy Ayeh, has accused the Minority of engaging in political propaganda over alleged losses incurred by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), and has challenged them to provide evidence to support their claims.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Dr. Ayeh said the Minority had failed to substantiate its allegations with concrete evidence.

“The Minority have not been able to pinpoint, with evidence, the alleged GoldBod losses. They are simply engaging in political propaganda,” he stated.

He criticised the NPP for continuing to raise concerns about GoldBod’s operations, accusing the previous government of contributing to Ghana’s economic difficulties.

“After destroying the economy, they still will not keep quiet,” he said.

Dr. Ayeh further defended GoldBod’s role in the government’s broader economic reforms, claiming that the institution has helped to reset Ghana’s gold-trading system.

“GoldBod has reset the economy,” he stated.

According to him, the government’s reforms have disrupted illicit gold-trading practices, particularly smuggling, which he alleged benefited individuals associated with the previous administration.

“The NPP was benefiting from illicit gold trades through smuggling,” he alleged.

He said the current government had introduced policies aimed at stopping such practices and restructuring the gold sector, while acknowledging that the reforms could come with difficulties and challenges.

“But now there is a new government which has come with policies to stop all these, and indeed there may be difficulties and challenges since the NPP government had mismanaged the economy during their tenure,” he said.

Dr. Ayeh maintained that the government had spent the past year gradually implementing changes intended to transform the gold-trading system and address costs inherited from the past.

“In one year, we have made gradual changes to change the whole system to take care of an incurred cost from the past,” he stated.
