Haruna Amaliba Kingsley, a member of the Government Communication Team, has criticised former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s handling of resources generated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amaliba said the former president should have used the opportunity to leave behind a national project linked directly to the pandemic instead of continuing with the National Cathedral project, which remains uncompleted.
“When COVID came, you guys told us, despite all the windfall, I was expecting before Nana Akufo-Addo left office, his excellency, the former president, instead of building an uncompleted supposed promised national cathedral to God, he should have built a runabout and named it COVID Runabout,” he said.
According to Amaliba, such a project would have provided a lasting reminder of the resources generated during the pandemic and how they were used.
“That would have been good for him,” he said on GTV.
He argued that future generations should be able to look back and identify how Ghana responded to the pandemic and what was done with the resources available at the time.
“For Ghanaians to come up later, after this generation is dead and gone, to know that once upon a time, a disease called COVID came and the president of the day benefited immensely,” he added.
