Software developers have to redesign the system – Adutwum on CSSPS

Former Education Minister Dr Yaw Adutwum has called for a redesign of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to prevent qualified BECE candidates from being left out of available Senior High School vacancies.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Dr Adutwum said the current system could exclude candidates if their names are not captured as eligible for self-placement.

“If this is the case, then the software developers have to go and redesign the system. Otherwise, when they go and they want to find a school, their name will not be on the system for them to find the school because the system will have excluded them,” he said.

His comments follow concerns over candidates who were not placed in the initial 2026 CSSPS exercise but could still be seeking available vacancies through self-placement.

Dr Adutwum questioned the large number of candidates left out of the initial placement exercise, saying it could indicate a problem with the system.

He also recalled that the Free SHS policy was designed to remove the previous cutoff system, which he said excluded about 100,000 candidates from secondary education every year.

He said the placement system should therefore be structured to ensure that eligible candidates can access available SHS vacancies rather than being excluded from the self-placement process.
