Medeama exit CAF Champions League after defeat to TP Mazembe

Medeama’s 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League campaign came to an end on Saturday, September 12, 2026, after a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

The result gave Mazembe a 4-1 aggregate victory over the Ghanaian champions.

Medeama travelled to the Stade TP Mazembe with a 1-0 deficit from the first leg at the TnA Stadium last Sunday. However, they could not overturn the advantage as Mazembe put in a strong performance at home.

Mazembe took control early and opened the scoring after 16 minutes through Patrick Mwanungulu.

The Congolese side doubled their lead just eight minutes later when Kazema Baso found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Medeama needed at least two goals to keep their hopes of progressing alive, but they struggled to respond before half-time as Mazembe remained in control.

The hosts eventually put the tie beyond doubt in the 78th minute when Mwanungulu scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-0.

Medeama continued to fight and pulled one back in the 87th minute through Dominic Amponsah.

However, it was not enough to change the outcome as TP Mazembe secured a 4-1 aggregate win and advanced to the next stage of the competition.

Medeama will now turn their attention to domestic football as they begin their bid to defend the Ghana Premier League title.
