President John Dramani Mahama has denied claims that Arabic and Chinese are being introduced into Ghana’s school curriculum.
Speaking in Wa during his Upper West Resetting Ghana Tour on September 12, Mahama said no such policy had been approved by the Cabinet.
“Let me disabuse your minds. There is absolutely no new policy that says that Arabic and Chinese are going to be introduced in our school curriculum,” he said.
Mahama, who chairs Cabinet, said any changes to the subjects taught in schools must first be presented to Cabinet for approval before becoming official government policy.
“I chair Cabinet, and I can tell you no new curriculum has come for approval by Cabinet,” he said.
He therefore dismissed reports that Arabic and Chinese would be added to the curriculum, stressing that no such decision had been taken by the government.
“Those who are going around and saying, Arabic is going to be introduced, Chinese is going to be introduced, I want to say with all emphasis as President of the Republic of Ghana that no such policy has been approved by the Cabinet that I chair,” Mahama said.
