The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has suspended assistant referee Aliyu Yakubu Bana indefinitely following a controversial offside decision in the match between Doma United and Enyimba.
The decision was announced in a letter signed by Mohammed Ameenu, Secretary of the NFF Referee Development Committee, on Sunday, September 13.
According to the letter, Bana failed to properly apply the offside rules while serving as Assistant Referee 1 during Doma United’s 2-0 win over Enyimba on Saturday.
The NFF said Bana did not follow the “wait-and-see protocol”, which led to a valid Enyimba goal being disallowed.
The federation said the mistake affected the outcome of the match.
As a result, Bana has been removed from the league list of referees and assistant referees for the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
