Nana Boakye alleges drug lords are operating local laboratories under Mahama’s watch

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has alleged that drug traffickers have established basic laboratories in Ghana to process illicit drugs.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the opposition NPP on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Nana Boakye claimed the activities were taking place under the watch of President John Dramani Mahama.

“These drug lords, they have established basic laboratories here for processing of illicit drugs and narcotics under the watch of President Mahama,” he said.

“And it appears that he doesn’t care.”

Nana Boakye linked the alleged local processing to a series of drug interceptions involving consignments traced to Ghana.

He said the continued appearance of drugs linked to Ghana in other countries could not be treated as isolated incidents.

“That is the reason why volumes of drugs traced to Ghana keep surfacing in the folds of ships and the luggage of passengers in Sydney, Dunkirk and Johannesburg,” he said.

He also alleged that some government officials were facilitating the movement of narcotics out of Ghana.

His comments come amid investigations into recent narcotics trafficking cases involving Ghana, including the seizure by French customs authorities of almost 3.9 tonnes of cocaine concealed in a container carrying plastic waste from Ghana.

Four Ghanaian nationals have been charged and remanded in connection with that shipment, while Dutch national Jos Leijdekkers has been reported to be at large.

Nana Boakye said the recent cases should prompt closer scrutiny of how narcotics are processed and moved out of Ghana.
