Rev. Daniel Annan has warned that women can suffer when sex is treated as the way to settle marital conflicts, particularly when emotional issues remain unresolved.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Let’s Talk, Rev. Annan said some women suppress their feelings because of their children, social expectations and concerns about religious teachings.
“Women tend to suffer most because there could be things that are going on that she bottles them up because of the children, because of what people will say, because of the fear of what the Bible says,” he said.
He said this can result in women agreeing to intimacy despite still being emotionally hurt.
Rev. Annan recalled an encounter involving a woman who, after having sex with her husband, asked whether he was finished so she could go to sleep.
He said the incident showed how some women may participate in intimacy even when they have no emotional connection to the experience.
“You have done all that you’ve done. I didn’t have any feeling for it,” he recounted her saying.
According to Rev. Annan, the example demonstrates why couples should not assume that intimacy automatically means that both partners have moved past a disagreement.
He said emotional issues within marriage need to be recognised rather than being hidden under physical intimacy.
His said this during a discussion on whether sex can genuinely resolve marital problems or simply create the appearance that an issue has been settled.
