Mohammed Zaidan scored in the 88th minute as Karela United secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak, ending the Phobians’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
The decisive moment came at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in an exciting Matchday Four encounter.
Zaidan produced a calm finish late in the game to send the home supporters into celebration.
Karela United started the match strongly and created the better chances in the first half. However, they could not turn their pressure into a goal.
Hearts of Oak also had chances but struggled to create the same level of danger as the home side. Both teams went into the break level after an exciting first half.
Karela continued to attack after the restart and kept looking for the opening goal.
Their hard work finally paid off in the closing stages when Zaidan produced a fine individual effort. He dribbled past the Hearts defence before firing a low shot into the net with two minutes of normal time remaining.
The win gives Karela United a valuable three points, while Hearts of Oak suffered their first defeat of the season after four matches.
