CAF has upheld Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ protest against Edo Queens and cancelled the Nigerian side’s 4-1 penalty shootout win in the WAFU Zone B qualifying final for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
In a decision dated September 26, 2026, CAF’s Organising Committee for Women’s Football ruled that the penalty shootout should not have taken place after the teams drew 2-2 in normal time.
According to the competition rules, two 15-minute periods of extra time should have been played before penalties.
The final was played on September 5 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, but went straight to a penalty shootout after the 2-2 draw. CAF said the mistake came from an administrative instruction and confirmed that neither team was responsible.
CAF therefore upheld Ampem Darkoa’s protest but rejected the request for the entire match to be replayed.
The 90 minutes will remain valid, with the match now continuing from the 2-2 scoreline into extra time.
The teams will play two 15-minute periods of extra time. If the scores remain level, a new penalty shootout will be held to decide the winner.
CAF has also directed that, where possible and allowed by the rules, the continuation should have the same sporting conditions. This includes player eligibility, disciplinary status, substitutions, venue and match officials.
WAFU B will announce the date, kick-off time and venue for the continuation after consulting CAF and the two national associations.
The winner will secure the WAFU Zone B ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.
