Black Starlets suffer late defeat to Morocco in second friendly

Morocco’s U-17 team scored with the last kick of the game to beat the Black Starlets 2-1 in the second of two international friendly matches in Rabat.

The Black Starlets played with 10 men for most of the second half but showed strong character before a late counter-attack gave the hosts the win.

Morocco took the lead in the 11th minute after taking advantage of a poor clearance by the Ghana goalkeeper.

Ghana responded well and created several chances to equalise. Issah Alidu came close three times after finding himself one-on-one with the Moroccan goalkeeper before half-time.

Ten minutes after the break, the Black Starlets were reduced to 10 men when captain Abdul Rafiu Issah was sent off for a strong tackle on a Moroccan attacker.

Despite being a player down, Ghana continued to push for an equaliser.

Their efforts paid off in the 75th minute when Yaw Acheampong scored a brilliant free kick to make it 1-1.

The goal gave the Black Starlets more confidence as they pushed for a winning goal.

Gavi Robinho came close to completing the comeback, but his effort was blocked by a Moroccan defender and went out for a corner.

Morocco quickly turned the corner into a counter-attack, which ended with the hosts scoring with the final kick of the match.

The result leaves the two-match series level, with Ghana winning the first game 2-0 before Morocco won the second 2-1.

The two friendlies mark the end of the Black Starlets’ international preparations for the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship, which will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
