The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has denied reports that former Manhyia South MP Nana Baffour Agyei Awuah has been granted Ghc50 million bail.
EOCO said Mr Awuah remains in its custody and is cooperating with investigators as the agency continues its work.
“Suspect Nana Baffour Agyei Awuah is cooperating with the Office to continue with the necessary investigative processes and procedures,” EOCO said in a statement.
The agency said it was also working with the Office of the Attorney-General to have the suspect brought before a court over the weekend.
“Mindful of the applicable constitutional timeframes and procedural requirements governing bail, the Office is fervently working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring the Suspect before a weekend court,” the statement said.
EOCO specifically urged the public to disregard reports that it had granted Mr Awuah Ghc50 million bail.
“The Office also wishes to urge the public to disregard media reports that the Office has granted the Suspect a Ghc50 million bail,” it stated.
Mr Awuah voluntarily surrendered to EOCO on October 1 after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with the agency’s investigation.
He has remained in custody since then, with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other NPP officials visiting him on October 2.
