Visa controversy: Provide evidence or ‘shut up’ – Abass Nurudeen tells Minority

Abass Nurudeen has challenged the parliamentary Minority to provide evidence supporting its allegations against the Minister for Sports and Recreation over Ghana’s World Cup visa arrangements.

The Social Investment Fund CEO disputed claims that the minister allowed his office to be used to help people allegedly misrepresented as National Sports Authority staff obtain visas.

Nurudeen said the Minority had not identified anyone on a list of 90 people reportedly submitted on May 19 who had previously been refused visas but was later assisted through the ministry’s influence at the United States Embassy.

He argued that the claims should be backed by specific evidence before they are used to demand the minister’s removal.

“When you make a claim and you are put to strict proof, you should be able to provide evidence to substantiate your claim,” he said on Joy News’ Newsfile.

The Minority has called for accountability over the alleged collection of visa facilitation fees and the submission of questionable personnel lists to foreign embassies.
