Acting Regional Birth and Death Registrar Samuel Adom Botchway said the Births and Deaths Registry does not offer instant or express services for obtaining birth certificates, and outlined the fees for different age categories.
Speaking on Kasapa FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Botchway said birth registration for children aged between zero and 12 months is free, stressing that parents are not required to pay for birth certificates for newborns.
“From zero to 12 months is free; we don’t take money for newborns,” he said.
He further disclosed that the Registry has replaced the old pink birth certificate with a new version featuring enhanced security features.
He also monitors the distribution and use of birth certificates across regions to help prevent irregularities in the registration process.
Botchway explained that if a person born in Accra obtains a birth certificate in the Bono East Region, the officer who processed the document in that region would be held accountable.
He also outlined the fees for older applicants, noting that birth certificates for children aged one to five years cost GH¢13, while those for people aged five to 59 years cost GH¢26.
“I came to meet the new prices, and that is what we are still using,” he said.
