Former Asante Akim North MP Andy Appiah-Kubi says he is unlikely to contest the parliamentary seat again, expressing gratitude to constituents for giving him eight years to serve them.
Speaking on TV3’s Keypoints, Appiah-Kubi said he wanted to continue with his life outside Parliament and urged constituents to support whoever represents them, including the incumbent MP, Kwame Ohene Frimpong.
“I’m very grateful to the people of Asante for having given me eight years of my life,” he said.
“I’m not sure that I want to ever go back. On this platform, I want to state emphatically that I want to continue with my life as I have it now.”
Appiah-Kubi also called on constituents to support the current MP and whoever eventually occupies the seat, stressing the need for cooperation in serving the constituency.
“I’ll pray that we all support whoever becomes our MP, including the current MP, so that we can discharge the mandate,” he said.
His comments come amid discussions about Ohene Frimpong’s detention abroad over an extradition request from the United States.
Appiah-Kubi said he had deliberately stayed away from public commentary on the matter but offered his views during the programme.
