Tuffour praises NDC’s economic management, slams NPP over National Cathedral

Dr Isaac Tuffour has praised the Mahama administration’s economic management, arguing that the Finance Ministry plays a central role in determining every government’s performance.

Speaking on Angel FM Kumasi’s The Platform on October 20, 2026, Tuffour said the economy underpins effective governance, insisting the Finance Ministry must provide the resources and direction other ministries need to function properly.

He said the NDC has performed well in this area, adding that Ghanaians can see evidence of the government’s approach without relying on public lectures or political rhetoric.

“The fulcrum of every government is the handling of the economy. For all the other ministries to function properly, it is the Finance Ministry that must spearhead this revolution,” The NDC communicator suggested.

Tuffour argued that the NDC’s approach to governance differed from the NPP’s, which he accused of using public lectures and political messaging to distract Ghanaians from its record in government.

He also criticised the National Cathedral project, questioning how millions of dollars had been spent on a project that remains incomplete.

Tuffour described the project as an expensive hole in the ground and suggested that it had become a channel for financial irregularities rather than delivering the intended national development.

He further argued that the NDC’s commitment to reducing government expenditure, including cutting the number of ministers and eliminating unnecessary spending, demonstrated a more efficient approach to governance.

According to him, a smaller government could still deliver results without placing unnecessary financial burdens on the state.

The NDC communicator also questioned the NPP’s flagbearer’s competence and performance, arguing that the party had fallen short of its promises to Ghanaians.

He cited the stalled National Cathedral project and delays surrounding the second phase of the Kumasi Central Market redevelopment as examples of projects that required greater accountability.
