The King of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, is said to have commenced processes to end the chieftaincy conflict in Bawku in the Upper East Region.
Otumfuo met the leadership of the Mamprusis at his Palace in Kumasi on Friday, February 14, 2025.
This meeting, according to the mouthpiece of the Ashanti Kingdom, Opemsuo FM, was preceded by a meeting with the Defence and Interior Ministers of Ghana.
The Interior and Defence Ministry believe that the situation can be addressed with the use of security and traditional means.
The traditional means is the role being played by the Otumfuo, who is known to have played a key role in bringing peace to Dagbon after a protracted conflict.
Bawku is predominantly inhabited by two main ethnic groups: the Kusasis and the Mamprusis.
The conflict between these groups has roots in historical tensions, competition over resources, and political rivalries.
Several deaths have been recorded as a result of the conflict in recent times.
