2026/27 MTN FA Cup final to be played over two legs

The 2026/27 MTN FA Cup final will be played over two legs for the first time in the history of Ghanaian domestic football.

The Football Association has scheduled the first leg for June 5-7, 2027, with the return leg set for June 12-13, 2027.

The change is aimed at giving the competition greater exposure while allowing both finalists to play a major home fixture in front of their supporters.

The decision is a major change from the traditional one-match final and is expected to bring more excitement to Ghana’s top knockout competition.

The journey to the final will begin with the preliminary round, which is scheduled for October 23-26, 2026.

The Round of 64 will take place from November 27-30, 2026, followed by the Round of 32 from February 12-15, 2027.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for March 19-22, 2027, while the semi-finals will be played from April 23-26, 2027.

The competition will then reach its historic final in June, with the two finalists facing each other in two matches for the trophy.

Nations FC are the defending champions after beating Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in last season’s final.
